12 Week Transformation
Continuous Improvement
Congratulations on completing the 12 Week Transformation!
You have learned and accomplished a lot. Now it's time to take everything you've learned - about yourself and what you like - and continue improving.
Through much of the Gentleman Spy program, you have progressed from untrained to novice, or from novice to intermediate in many different domains and skill sets. Just as people usually see great results in a workout program for the first couple of weeks, but their progress slows after that, the road from intermediate to advanced to expert will often take longer, and require more thought and effort than simply following a basic program. With the additional effort required to progress in one area, you may have to let off (or just settle into "maintenance mode") in others. This is okay, and expected. Keep pushing forward, and working on making your life everything you want it to be.
As you continue to grow and mold your life into what you want, remember to take stock of where you are with everything you want. You may decide to put more effort into work, or a new relationship, or learning a new skill, but that doesn't mean you should skimp on your workouts, forego other training, or quit activities altogether. Pay attention to your whole life and make small tweaks or big changes as needed to always be the best version of yourself that you can be.
BODY
It is entirely possible to simply stick with the various routines listed in the program material, cycling between the 5x5 strength workout and advanced bodyweight workouts as desired. You will build, and maintain very high levels of strength and skill this way. However, you can always make more progress with a highly structured training regimen that is tailored to your specific goals.
- If you want to focus on strength and size, progress from the 5x5 to a more advanced program where you'll make weekly or monthly, rather than daily progress. Remember that while it may take only a couple of months to get from a 45lb to a 250lb squat, it could easily take years to get from a 250lb to a 400lb squat or bench press. Don't get discouraged that progress is taking longer, this is just the name of the game in more advanced training.
- If you want to branch out into other training modalities or sports, you now have the overall fitness base to do so. If you want to complete a marathon or triathlon, you weight your training more towards endurance than just strength and speed. If you want to get into strongman competitions, you can start specializing in those events.
- Whatever you want to do, remember that progress in one area will often (but not necessarily) mean that you'll fall off in others. But you can structure your training in a way that these ebbs and flows work together so you always end up stronger, faster, with more endurance, year after year.
STYLE
Over the past 12 weeks, you have built a wardrobe that will take you anywhere in the world, to almost any event you could want to attend, with style and ease. Now it's time to really focus on your personal style, and how you want to be seen.
- If you want to add more flair, you can start branching out now. More colorful shirts, socks, ties, flashy watches, exotic shoes or boots, etc. can all play into this.
- If you want to be more Jason Bourne than James Bond, move towards a "gray man" approach, opting for muted colors and styles that blend in with the baseline and background wherever you are.
- Now that you know all the basics and have a staple wardrobe, now is the time to get more "you" pieces. Spring for the perfect watch, or suit, or shoes, or boots. Get more pocket squares, or shirts, or interesting socks. Once you know the rules, you can start to break them your own way.
ATTITUDE
Working on your attitude is all up to you at this point. If you're shy, the past 12 weeks should have helped you break out of your shell and talk to more people. If you didn't have good social or conversation skills, you've been able to work on and refine them. Now, where you go is up to you.
- For the single guys who want to find a partner, working on your skills with women will guarantee that you get, and keep, the right woman when you find her.
- From rapport building to conversation skills to your ability to captivate a room while giving a presentation, there are social skills that every man can and should work on to make all your goals reality.
- Play to your strengths, work on your weaknesses, and work on the social skills that will give you the most bang for your buck.
SKILLS
You have learned to fight, to shoot, first aid, and made progress towards becoming a better poker player and linguist. Now it's time to expand those skills or branch out on your own.
- You can and should continue working on any and all skills within the Gentleman Spy program that you like or need more experience in.
- If you are really into combatives or firearms, continue working on getting better.
- Take more advanced shooting classes with established trainers like Constellis (formerly Academi, formerly Blackwater), Costa Ludus, Gunsite, Haley Strategic, Kyle Defoor, Rifles Only, Rogers Shooting School, Sentinel Concepts, the Sig Sauer Academy, Suarez International, Thunder Ranch, and others.
- Take combatives seminars or attend Systema, Sayoc Kali, or other seminars.
- Get started in competitive shooting like USPSA, IDPA, 3-Gun, PRS, or whatever is available near you.
- If you like poker, work on your skills until you're ready to compete in the World Series of Poker.
- If you want more in-depth information than the Red Cross gave you, sign up for whatever class best fits your interests (tactical first aid, medical training to help care for sick loved ones, a Remote EMT class, etc.).
- If you liked the language learning you've done so far, work on learning more.
- If you are really into combatives or firearms, continue working on getting better.
- The skills learned in the program are just the tip of the iceberg:
- Learn to pick locks
- Fly a plane
- Go ballroom dancing
- Skydive
- Scuba Dive
- Attend an advanced driving course (rally school, off road driving, etc.)
- Improve your handwriting
- Get outdoors - hiking, camping, geocaching
- Learn to sail
- Get your motorcycle license
LIFESTYLE
Live the life you want to live. Whatever you can do to take control of your life and make it perfect for you, do that.
- If you're working a job you don't love, get a better job. If you're not qualified, then work towards getting the qualifications and get it done.
- If you want the freedom to work, travel, and live on your own terms, consider starting your own business. Everything from Amazon stores to e-books to consulting to online courses can give you the time and money (read: freedom) to do what you want, when you want.
- If you're in a relationship that isn't fulfilling, either make it better or get out.
- If you want more adventure, or travel, or romance, stop waiting for the perfect scenario to play out and start having fun now. Book a weekend away instead of saving up to take weeks off work. Take a road trip to go climbing or skiing or to the beach. Plan a night out with your wife, or girlfriend, or the cute girl at school or work that you've been thinking of asking out but haven't yet.
Living the Gentleman Spy lifestyle is about making life happen your way, on your terms, and enjoying everything you can.
